EFFECTIVE & BUDGET-FRIENDLY BRAND DESIGN TIPS FOR ENTREPRENEURS WHO WANT THEIR BRAND TO BE TIMELESS, MINIMAL, AND SOPHISTICATED
I started this short series called How to Style Your Classy Brand for business owners like you who want to know how to create a sophisticated, quality brand that attracts and converts, even when on a budget. These tips are foundational to how I build my own business, as well as that of my clients. I hope you find the info helpful!
So let’s chat today about the 3rd key to styling your classy brand:
Keep It Quality
Just because you are a business on a budget does NOT mean you have to sacrifice quality to achieve the stunning results you are looking for. Once you have established your brand identity and audience and have a clear vision for your business, you can create quality supporting collateral (business cards, graphics, brochures, website…) by being selective, and training your eye to pick out photos, fonts, textures, etc. that support your classy brand.
So what does this look like practically?
Well it may be tempting to use the default web or windows fonts, but try researching some quality free fonts that are quick and easy to download, or try a site like Creative Market where fonts, patterns and stock photos are very affordable and help you stand out from your competition. There are also several sites that offer royalty- free photos that are great for graphics. My personal favs are Unsplash, Pexels, and Pixabay. I use these often for my personal brand to create graphics and other collateral, as well as for clients when their budget does not include professional stock photography.
If you don’t have Adobe software for creating and editing graphics, you can use Canva free of charge and create some stunning effects with a little trial and error. Keep in mind with this option that you may be stuck using templates unless you have a good design eye. Also, make sure to select supporting images and graphics carefully- ones that have the same look and feel as your other branding. This goes back to Key #1-Consistency.
For example, my branding is minimal, light, and feminine, and I prefer cool over warm tones. I have a few go-to fonts I use consistently, in addition to my own calligraphy- a serif font, sans-serif font, and script. I also use the color palette from my brand guide to keep my brand consistent and classy. When I edit photos, I always use the same settings for brightness, contrast, saturation, etc. Again, this creates a consistent, quality look to my brand.
Creating a brand on a budget does not need to be tacky or thrown together. Here is an example from my Instagram page of some graphics I have created using free stock photos, my own illustrations and lettering, and my brand’s typography and color palette.
So when people are scrolling quickly through Instagram, my goal is that they see my post and stop in their tracks, because they recognize my branding without even seeing the name Autumn & White. I want my brand to be instantly recognizable. I also want my work to exude quality and creativity.
How about you? Does your brand exude quality, from the website to the logo and collateral? Are you happy with the results?
If you have read this and are unsure of how your brand stands up against the competition, or if it just doesn’t exude the quality you desperately want it to, please don’t hesitate to reach out and give me a call. I would be happy to chat through options with you, offer suggestions, and help get you on track to achieving the results you want. You definitely don’t have to walk through this alone.
